Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge
The Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge takes in Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. Previous experience of long distance walking required, although there are many escape routes back to Horton-in-Ribblesdale, where we’ll be staying in the 3 Peaks Bunkhouse (shares a car park with the Golden Lion pub)
Fri: arrive Fri evening and gather in the Golden Lion pub (next to the bunkhouse) before retiring for a relatively early night.
Sat: We’ll start from the bunkhouse in Horton-in-Ribblesdale, relatively early (7:30 ish?) to make full use of the daylight, but at a tad under 25 mile, we should be back at the Lions Head (next to the bunkhouse) early in the evening providing we don’t dawdle too much. We’ll go in the traditional anti-clockwise direction starting with Pen-y-Ghent. Don’t forget to bring some cash, there’s a nice tea wagon just before the aqueduct on the way to Whernside!
Sun: depending upon legs, weather and post success apathy, we might or might not do a little walk in the morning before heading off home.
Accommodation: The bunkhouse has a kitchen but we’re sharing it with others, and after a long day walking, it might be easier to eat in the pub, but we can take a vote on that nearer the time. At £17.50 pppn, it’s not cheap but is representative of the area, and shares a car park with the pub, so no car parking fees. Nor do we have to travel as we can just walk out directly from the digs. BYO breakfast and don’t forget to bring your sarnies.
I’ve set the RSVP at £20 to cover the deposit and set the limit to 12 folk including myself, to keep it manageable on the hills. More detail to follow as we get closer to the date….
Come and join us, we’ll have a ball. Hopefully I won’t fall in the bog this time around... sigh…
