Writing for Wellbeing and Self-discovery
Nurture your creativity and strengthen your connection to yourself and others at this three-hour writing for wellbeing and self-discovery session.
This course will encourage participants to explore their senses helping to raise awareness, practice mindfulness, and access positive memories and experiences by connecting with chosen poems, prose extracts and objects to help shape our writing.
Please remember the focus is on writing for self-development, and the willingness to experiment and explore rather than producing the perfect end project. The session will be a safe space for writers to develop their craft with the chance to provide respectful and construction feedback to others.
There will be an opportunity to share writing or discuss the process at the end of each writing exercise, but no pressure!
Participants should take away some ideas for developing their writing for self-discovery and wellbeing.
Lizzie grew up in Ulster where she scribbled stories as the Troubles rumbled. Studying English Literature at university scared her off writing for decades, during which she taught English in secondary schools. At the age of fifty she began writing again and gained an MSc in Creative Writing for Therapeutic Purposes with the Metanoia Institute. She is particularly interested in the relationship between creativity and wellbeing, especially mental health. Lizzie is an active member of Lapidus, the words for wellbeing association and has facilitated writing for wellbeing workshops for local Lapidus groups. Now working freelance, Lizzie is enjoying the vibrant writing community in Nottingham and is involved in writing groups in Bromley House Library and the Writers’ Highway. She enjoys writing (and sometimes performing) poetry.
