About Whitby: Whitby is a beautiful historic seaside town and port and arguably the jewel of the North Yorkshire coast. The town and Abbey was an inspiration to Bram Stoker and setting for the classic gothic love story Dracula. Its famous maritime heritage includes explorer Captain James Cook and William Scoresby.
About Steampunk: Steampunk is an aesthetic based on a mixture of science fiction and the 19th century style, more commonly known as the Victorian era. It combines old with new, so expect to see modern day items made with wood, brass and copper as well as classic Victorian clothing, such as top hats, waistcoats, goggles, corsets, bustles and fascinators.
There's also a hint of the fantastical as the science fiction allows ray guns, spaceships, giant Octopuses and alternate realities. Whatever takes your fancy, there's always time for a cup of tea and a slice of cake.
About the Event: Whitby Steampunk Weekend has been actively supported and encouraged by a number of local Whitby businesses and the organisers would like to thank the following:
The Pavilion, The Royal Hotel, La Rosa Hotel, The Whitby Deli, Whitby Wholefoods, Venus Trading, White Rabbit, Silver Street Fisheries, The Waiting Room Micropub, The Little Angel, The Dolphin, Cranberry Swamp, The Dispensary, Stonehouse Emporium, Meadow, The Fuzzy Dog Bakery, Masons Greengrocers, Abigails Cafe, Outpost 31, Moon and Balloon, Den of Antiquity, Green Dragon, The Golden Lion, Beckett's Coffee Shop, Miss Needles, Pandemonium, Lavender's Bizarre, The George Hotel, The Corner House among others...
