This Little Art: Translators on Their Work
In 2020, we continue our focus on the literary translator's point of view: Why do people decide to become literary translators? What motivates them, moves, what upsets and troubles them? The last couple of years have seen the publication of numerous translators’ biographies, given voice to the secret heroes of the world of literature. We will read excerpts from some of those, as well as Translator’s Prefaces to tackle the question: What do translators think about their work?
The Translators’ Stammtisch is open to all translators and will meet at the Goethe-Institut Glasgow. All translators are invited to bring along an excerpt from their current work (up to 1000 words of work in progress, prose or poetry, destined for publication or for pleasure) to share and discuss and benefit from the hive-mind of emerging and experienced literary translators.
