Hello! My name is Tony Coll, and I'm the founder of SpeakUp, the friendly speaking club for people who don't like speaking. I'd like you to come to one of our meetings.
But ... it's well known that most people would rather not speak in public. So why should they put themselves through the pain when they don't have to?
Well, everyone needs to communicate some time. If you have a product, service or point of view to promote, you may well go to a networking event, where you'll be asked to speak for a minute about your thing.
Or you might have to pitch for funding; be interviewed for a job; speak at a public meeting; make a video; be interviewed by a journalist for a newspaper, radio or TV. Or you may want to learn techniques for being more assertive at work.
All these things can be practised at SpeakUp. You'll get friendly advice on what to say and how to say it in a relaxed, confidential and supportive setting.
If you just want to observe, that's fine. A video camera will be there, but if you'd rather not be filmed, that's OK too.
The group at Knowle Constitutional Club in Bristol is the first of what I hope will be many. There's no membership fee - it's just £10 for anyone to attend any group.
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?
Buses 2, 92 and 376 stop nearby. Get off at Brecknock Rd and walk back down the hill.
What can I bring into the event?
Something to write with and something to write on. If you are about to give a talk, speech or presentation, bring that too.
How can I contact the organiser with any questions?
Call me, Tony Coll, on 07813 480986 or email email@example.com
What's the refund policy?
No cash refunds, but you can use your ticket at a later SpeakUp event
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
Yes. You can also buy one on the night, but check availability with me as it's a small room - max ten attendees.
Can I update my registration information?
Yes if you wish but it's not really necessary.
Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?
Yes, you can use it at another SpeakUp event.
Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?
Yes, that's fine.
