Self Esteem @ Metronome
My first proper gig in ages that I ve put on!!!
I ve reposted this, as it wasn t appearing right - I ve moved everyone over to this event, don t worry!
This was a tough choice, because it s the same day as the excellent Skinny Lister who are playing at Rescue Rooms, which Andy is already kindly hosting (
I ve now seen Self Esteem three times, each in very different circumstances; one with her sitting on a wooden table in Rough Trade with, at The Bodega for a proper gig, and also at a Library in Huddersfield! Each time has been great, and this is something that you don t hear me say very often, but it ll be great to see her in a larger venue! Definitely think that The Bodega and Rough Trade gigs were both in my top 10 gigs of 2019.
She s got a new single out (
Hoping that this will all go ahead with no problems, but obviously this will be run in accordance with any restrictions in place at the time.
We ll meet up before if we can, and hopefully meet up with Andy and co afterwards!!
Tickets are around £18 including fees from:
Self Esteem plays Metronome on Thursday 25 November 2021 as part of the newly announced 18 date headline tour.
The new single ‘I Do This All The Time’, was premiered by Steve Lamacq on BBC Radio 6 Music. A part spoken-word ode to all the frustrations and societal norms that cloud expectations of ‘correct’ womanhood.
It speaks to the impressive scale and ambition of Rebecca Lucy Taylor’s highly anticipated first new music since the release of her acclaimed 2019 debut album ‘Compliments Please’. Blending big melodies and hefty, vibrant percussion, it was pop with an alternative edge, winning praise from the likes of The Guardian and Loud & Quiet, filling a packed-out set in the BBC Introducing Tent at 2019’s Glastonbury and giving her reason to fulfil her long-coveted dream of being on Breakfast TV.
A space for both catharsis and euphoric celebration, a Self Esteem live show is not to be missed.
