Harwich and Dovercourt Cricket Club
West End Lane, Harwich, United Kingdom

Harwich and Dovercourt Cricket Club was founded in 1946 and has been playing cricket now at Low Road for over 70 years. Harwich’s first real taste of success was when they moved into the Suffolk Alliance league and won the championship in 1972 and 1974, as well as finishing runners-up in 1973 and 1975. This is the clubs most successful spell to date, captained by the clubs current Honorary Life President Dr John Rankin. After this spell of success Harwich joined the larger Two Counties League and spent many years in the top half of Division 2 without achieving promotion. Promotion to the top flight finally occurred in the early 1990’s but, after two seasons, they fell back into Division 2. Since the restructuring of the leagues Harwich has found itself on the wrong side of some unlucky relegation battles and now ply’s its trade in Division 5, where they are the longest serving members, having been there since 2009. Harwich also have a 2nd XI and a Sunday Team. The 2nd XI’s finest hour was winning the League and Cup double in 1999, shocking local rivals Clacton in the final. The 2nd XI now play in Two Counties Division 9 South where they provide great experience for youth players coming through the club. The Sunday side started life in Two Counties Division C before a switch in 2010 to the NECL Cricket League saw spell of success. Winning the Division 5 title in 2011, Division 4 in 2014 and Division 3 in 2015. Next season Harwich has decided to re-join the Two Counties Sunday League. Harwich has friendly local rivalries with Mistley C.C. and Clacton C.C. Affectionately known as “The Ships” and “Your hosts from the coast” Harwich and Dovercourt has always been a family orientated club with a number of youth sides ranging from under 11’s to under 15’s. As of 2017 the club are proud to have Current Essex Captain Ryan ten Doeschate as a life member
