We are reading the book Marxism and Freedom by Raya Dunayevskaya.
This work we are looking the first chapter which focuses on the beginnings of working class organisation and theory in the French Revolution of 1789.
She discusses how the events of the revolution had a direct impact on the German Philosopher Hegel's reorganisation of philosophy and why his theory of absolutes needs to be reinterpreted for every generation.
Please come along even if you have not managed to read the chapter. No prior knowledge is needed. We will be taking things very slowly, reading out long passages to break what is being said. There will be a crash course on Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel and why we should care about him. Early this season he was even quoted by disgruntled Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho in a pre match press conference. So it that does not sell this then what will?
