The London of Charles Dickens
Perhaps more than any other British author, Charles Dickens produced many books which are known to most of us; Oliver Twist, Great Expectations, Bleak House, A Christmas Carol and David Copperfield to name but a few.
Dickens wrote about the people and places he lived in and worked with every day. And that place was mainly London. Charles Dickens and London are inextricably linked. The buildings and their inhabitants would be sown into his books and stories. It was a place of great wealth but also great poverty.
So join us on a walk through Dickensian London. We will see the church where his parents were married, the “street of words” that inspired many of his characters and the garden where he wooed a lover. His life was complicated and we shall hear of his wife and a marriage that had more than 3 people in it. We will see the pubs that he frequented, the churchyards through which he strolled and the cobbled streets over which he walked. For anybody who wishes to tread in the steps of Dickens and witness what inspired him or just to understand the amazing world of Dickensian London, this walk s for you.
