Lecture Series: The Lost Scottish Identity
This lecture, at Gladstone's Land on 23rd January, will explore the events in the lead up to the Act of Union in 1707, and in the aftermath, what happened to the other lost Scottish identities!
About Lecture Series: The Lost Scottish Identity
The Scottish identity has changed greatly over the past 400 years, with significant dynastic and political changes acting as the catalyst for the most recognisable shifts in what it meant to be Scottish.
One of the largest of these changes was the Act of Union in 1707 and this lecture will explore the events in the lead up to it, understanding the issues that divided the people of Edinburgh. In the aftermath of the Union, one national identity dominated the narrative, but where are the other, lost identities, and how have these affected modern day Scotland?
