This course provides a basic introduction to average weight and how packaged goods are regulated. It covers traceability back to national standards, the packer rules and the consequence of failing reference tests and supplying inadequate packs.

Course Outline:

  • Introduction to average weight system

  • What are my legal requirements and responsibilities for weighing and measuring of goods?

  • What are the Packers Rules?

  • What is “Suitable Equipment”?

  • What to do with rejected/quarantined stock.

  • How to label good packed to average weight system

  • What records do I need to keep?

  • What do Trading Standards look for at the time of inspection?

  • Other legislative considerations

Who should attend?

  • Major packers of food and non-food items to the average weight;

  • Those packing goods to the minimum system who wish to explore the average weight system
