Speaker Profile

Dr Nina Skorupska CBE, Chief Executive, Renewable Energy Association and Deputy Chair of Women in Science and Engineering (WISE).

Nina Skorupska

Nina has over 30 years of experience of working in the Energy Industry. Qualified as a fuel expert, she became the first female Power Station Manager for RWE npower in the UK. After 3 years leading the UK Energy Prompt Trading team for RWE, she returned to RWE npower as Director of Technology Services. In 2008 Nina moved to Germany as RWE Group’s Director of Performance Improvement, working with the 25 Group Operating Companies to save over €2 bn operating costs. Her final role at RWE was to be an executive member of the Board of Essent N.V., RWE Group’s Netherlands/Belgium energy business. As the Chief Technology Officer she was responsible for the successful commercial and sustainable delivery of Essent’s Generation fleet, new energy developments and procurement.

Whilst at Essent, Nina joined the Supervisory Board of DNV KEMA, Energy & Sustainability (now DNV GL Energy). Her time with RWE came to an end in December 2012. After a short break Nina became a visiting Professor at London Metropolitan Business School, creating her own Company, Elysian Ark, with her husband. Nina joined the Renewable Energy Association (REA) in July 2013 as its Chief Executive Officer and early in 2014 was invited to join the Board of WISE Campaign as Non-executive Director. In 2015, she became a Fellow of the Energy Institute and, more recently, was awarded the Honour of Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2016 New Year's Honours List for her contribution to Renewables and Equality in Energy
