Daniel Wnukowski: 'Viennese' Twist in Waterloo
Daniel Wnukowski: 'Viennese' Twist
Part of Classical Season 2019/20
Sample Brahms’ miniatures, HK Gruber’s dark humour and nostalgic Korngold with the ‘dashing’ pianist.
The evening begins with Brahms’ piano pieces, their mood ranging from sunny ‘Austrian’ waltzes to the gloomy, unsettling character pieces of op. 116.
The second half opens with playfully anarchic music from the Viennese composer HK Gruber and ends with nostalgic works conjuring up the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Wnukowski performs 1930s and '40s movie themes by Erich Wolfgang Korngold in the form of rousing, dramatic solo piano arrangements.
Korngold's lush, operatic soundtracks created the ‘Hollywood sound’, which inspired decades of film composers, including John Williams and Hans Zimmer.
He has performed with orchestras including the Polish Radio Orchestra, Sinfonia Varsovia and the Poznan Philharmonic and with conductors including Jerzy Maksymiuk, Alain Trudel and David Amos.
Cost: 10.00 to 20.00
