With a new focus on creative entrepreneurship, Student Start-ups have curated a series of talks and panels, open to students and the public, taking place over the coming academic year. We have invited high profile guest speakers and experts in their field to lead in discussions on the emerging trend of creative entrepreneurship.

As part of the Creative Careers Fair, Student Startups present the next in the Creative Entrepreneurship series with special guest speaker Susan Mumford.

WHERE DO GREAT IDEAS COME FROM?

Do great ideas begin with a question or a problem? What are the creative processes in developing ideas, projects and products?

Do you wonder how to…

-          Generate ideas for projects or enterprises?

-          Get into a creative headspace to generate and expand upon new concepts?

-          Conduct effective research and test ideas?

-          Find collaborators to compliment your strengths and weaknesses?

-          Secure funding or find a way to maintain sustainability while bootstrapping?

-          Learn from other generations and maintain an agile, learning mindset?

American expat entrepreneur Susan J Mumford will present lessons from the field based on her own experiences in business as well as being a mentor to many others, to inform and inspire you in your own journey. She’ll translate how these real-life stories apply to projects and enterprises across sectors, embracing a changing world that embraces technology while not forgetting the importance - and strengths, of human-to-human interaction.

Following the talk, she’ll facilitate a half-hour Q&A to address attendees’ own questions and concerns about the world of creativity, entrepreneurship and more.

SUSAN J MUMFORD is a values-centred entrepreneur, speaker and author who identifies the needs of creative and/or small enterprises and develops solutions to support them. Her first venture was operating an art dealership and advisory. While running an associated gallery in Soho, London, she founded the Association of Women Art Dealers (AWAD), an international non-profit membership network that facilitates business and collaborations with members operating to high professional standards. This was followed by the development of Be Smart About Art, an online-accessible professional development platform based out of London that helps creative professionals thrive in a changing world. In late 2015, her first book was published in the name of BSAA’s motto: Art is your life. Make it your living. She’s presently developing a start-up that uses technology to address practical needs for the contemporary art market. Susan is also an equality advocate who lectures on conscious, unconscious and intersectional bias.

Based in Lewes, East Sussex, Susan works locally, in London, around the UK, the USA, Continental Europe and online, running workshops, lectures and courses, delivering 1-2-1 sessions, facilitating panel discussions, judging prizes and more.
