Choral Evensong at Winchester Cathedral
The Northampton Bach Choir are delighted to be following visits to St George's Chapel, Windsor, and Coventry, Gloucester, Lichfield, Peterborough, St Paul's, and Worcester Cathedrals, with their first visit to Winchester Cathedral. As usual, our full compliment of singers is far too many for the ancient Quire of the Cathedral to accommodate, so the maximum allowed number of 52 singers will be singing the service.
The music, suitable for the Eve of the Feast of the Ascension, is now confirmed (changed from the original listing):
Preces and Responses - Richard Ayleward (1626-69)
Psalm 24 - chant by S. S. Wesley (1810-76)
Evening Service in Bb - Sir Henry Smart (1813-79)
Sing praise to God who reigns above - Francis Jackson (b. 1917)
Admission to the service is free, though there may be a collection received. Please arrive in good time to guarantee a seat in the Quire.
