All Change Here! St Pancras and Kings Cross in the 1930s
Follow a trail of 1930s architecture to see how the area just south of Euston Road has evolved.
Join me to see some hidden delights in the gaps between the very old and the very new – specifically some lovely examples of Art Deco and Modernist architecture.
We'll meander through back streets and green squares to see evidence of inter-war technology and connections of various kinds. Plus impressive residential developments, sports halls, places of learning and social hubs.
It's also interesting to see how the design ideals of 1930s transcend time, as seen in a few post-WWII buildings and 21st century developments along the route.
At the end of the walk we'll look inside a 1930s pub that contains some marvellously evocative original marquetry. Do join me for an after-walk cocktail or a half of shandy.
Our journey starts at the front of St Pancras Station hotel and ends near Euston station.
Duration: just under 2 hours.
The exact meeting point for the walk will be sent to you via email after purchase of your ticket(s).
This tour is often scheduled on the same day as other Art Deco walks or tours in the same vicinty –
"Wow. What a great walk my friend and I had with Jane on Fabulous Façades of Spitalfields. We’ll def do more of Jane’s London Walks.
For last-minute bookings, enquiries or updates please call me prior to the tour start time on 07941 475003. Please note that I do not check my phone after a walk has started because it's not fair on the other attendees.
My guiding style is inclusive, open and friendly.
The walking tours I offer are all on subjects I am genuinely interested in – each highlights a different facet of my personality. I am specifically interested in the changing face of our streets over time and how those changes have affected local communities and the social history of an area.
