The Four Worlds
The Four Worlds is emotionally imprecise. It explores responses that aren’t concrete; our relationship with existence rather than our relationships with people. It also embodies the purity of the creative act; Pritchard and Zawada having no preconceived outcome in mind when they began. They were instead responsive to what was resonating as thework took shape; in the material of raw, unpeopled landscapes and forms implying layers of creation, both personal and cosmic, existing outside of our individual sense of time and place.
In making this entire body of work - a continuation of Under The Sun - both Pritchard and Zawada discovered that the synergy of the music and the visuals created feelings and responses that they hadn’t previously anticipated, and found difficult to put into words. This became the motivation for the artists to keep pushing further and exploring more deeply into this amorphous territory, an alien exploration which is not always comfortable but wholly compelling.
Jonathan Zawada is a cross-discipline artist best known for his unique approach to art and design.Weaving both analogue and digital techniques, he displays the back and forth interplay between manual physical labour and disembodied digital processes.
Informed by his early roots in web design, coding and animation, Zawada’s art practice further evolved into graphic design, illustration and art direction serving clients like Bloomburg, Nike, and BMW and now includes object design, sculpture, video, installation and painting. His work has received an ARIA, a D&AD award and a MAPDA award, as well as being exhibited in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Sydney,Barcelona, Tokyo and Paris.
Musical polymath Mark Pritchard has been releasing music under different guises for nearly 3 decades (Global Communication, Reload, Africa Hitech, Harmonic 313, Harmonic 33, to name a few) however in 2016 he released the critically lauded ‘Under The Sun’ Mark Pritchard has become a figurehead in his field with artists such as Thom Yorke, Linda Perhacs, The Space Lady, Bibio, Clark. He has recently toured with James Blake around the globe, released the mini album The Four Worlds in March and is
currently working on the full length follow up.
“I don’t believe in ghosts but I do believe places can be haunted by meaning. Places change, not always for the better and not always by natural, benevolent or politically sound means. A place can be charged with atmosphere because of what it has been through or what it has been.” Bibio
Phantom Brickworks is a multi-format project by artist and musician Bibio. The project consists of music, film and photography exploring themes of landscape, time and place. In November 2017, Bibio released the nine track album Phantom Brickworks on Warp Records.
“Phantom Brickworks is a collection of mostly improvised musical pieces, that for some years now, have provided me with a mental portal into places and times - some real, some imaginary, some a combination of both. Human beings are highly sensitive to the atmospheres of places, which can be enhanced or dramatically altered when you learn about the context of their history. Echoes and voices can sometimes be heard, in some way or another. Places sometimes have things to say.” Bibio
This hour long film explores these places in more depth to a bespoke edit of the Phantom Brickworks album.
Bibio is multi-faceted artist Stephen Wilkinson. Best known for his music, the multi-instrumentalist and producer has released eight albums on Warp Records and Mush Records. He is also known for his photography and film work, producing most of his own artwork and videos.
We are extremely happy to present this collaboration with Warp Records. An institution, and world leader in visionary creative endeavour.
